About The Role
The Sales Development Team Lead is responsible for driving the performance, development, and operational excellence of the Japan SDR team. This role combines hands-on coaching, performance management, recruiting, and strategic contribution to ensure consistent delivery of qualified meetings and Sales Accepted Opportunities (SAOs) to the sales organization.
The Team Lead serves as the first point of escalation for SDRs and plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of prospecting quality, accountability, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Sales Development Representatives to consistently deliver qualified meetings and Sales Qualified Opportunities
- Carry an individual quota while also owning the team’s roll-up quota, ensuring both personal contribution and overall team target attainment
- Drive daily execution of outbound prospecting activities (calls, emails, social outreach, follow-ups)
- Monitor KPIs and activity metrics; hold the team accountable to performance targets
- Conduct call reviews and provide structured, actionable feedback to improve effectiveness
- Provide day-to-day guidance, remove blockers, and act as first-level escalation point
- Participate in recruiting efforts: candidate sourcing, interviewing, and hiring recommendations
- Support onboarding and ongoing enablement of SDRs
- Analyze performance data, generate reports, and provide insights and recommendations to leadership
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to optimize targeting, messaging, and sequencing strategies
- Make performance improvement recommendations, including PIP support where necessary
- Ensure best practices in Outreach sequencing and prospecting tools are implemented and optimized
- Maintain a strong sense of urgency, organization, and operational rigor
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of IT sales experience (Software / SaaS / PaaS preferred)
- Minimum 1 year in a sales leadership or team lead capacity
- Fluency in English is required
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members
- Strong understanding of SDR processes, outbound prospecting best practices, and pipeline generation
- Experience running and executing measurable outbound campaigns with clear KPIs
- Understanding of enterprise (strategic) and commercial account engagement models
- Understanding of the IT industry, with experience prospecting to IT decision-makers preferred
- Outstanding communication skills (phone and email) across both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-velocity environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom (or similar web conferencing tools), and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
- Experience with sales engagement tools (e.g., Outreach or similar platforms)
- Strong desire to stay current on technology trends, industry changes, and modern prospecting best practices
